"I have come to speak about the rescue mission tomorrow, but there is something you must know first," Kioni said. They fluttered above the floor, naked feet teasing the plush carpet. Leon could tell from their hesitancy that things were about to get a lot more complicated. "What is it?" he asked. "Tomorrow, someone you care about will die..." A person often meets his destiny on the road he took to avoid it. (Jean de la Fontaine) Leon is just a normal London teenager trying to enjoy his summer with his friends but destiny has other plans for them. Between a freak car accident that reveals a dark family secret, and a fateful train hijacking that grants them superhuman powers; Leon finds his future taking an unexpected detour. Leon finds purpose with his new abilities, becoming a superhero to protect his community. With his friends as his teammates, he is optimistic that he can make a difference and maintain control over his life. However, this decision plunges him into a world of vicious supervillains, deadly assassins, and a secret organisation that wants to eradicate him; and it's not long before his friends and his family are dragged into its depths. On the day he turns fifteen, Leon is told he will have to choose one of his friends to die... Determined to defy destiny and save everyone, Leon ignores his warning. But the devious Power of Fate quickly catches up with him and forces him to choose what's really important. One way or another, Leon will learn the true cost of being a hero.

"I've tried telling them I'm only fifteen. That no sane government would force a boy my age to fight crime. 'But Max, you're a superhero! Isn't this what you want?' Actually, no. I just kind of want to get through high school. Then we'll talk about this 'superhero' business." Max Owens is your average high school sophomore. Well, he tries to be, at least. At fifteen, he's got more important things to do than fight the infamous Vinicus Cauldwell. With his single mother having recently lost her job, Max is determined to help his family get back up on its feet. The publicity and pressure that comes with being a superhero would be too much to handle right now. But it's hard to fly under the radar, when you can literally fly. Meanwhile, Vinicus Cauldwell enjoys the power he has as Murkbourne's most feared super-villain. For once, he can sit back and relax without being pestered by the police. That is, until Max arrives. Vinicus isn't happy about having to fight a child, but he can't let Max find out. After all, super-villains can't be "good people"... Can they? We can't all be born heroes. But most of us are Heroes at Heart. (Based on a writing prompt / story request by tumblr user "fallingivy")
