At fifteen, he's got more important things to do than fight the infamous Vinicus Cauldwell. With his single mother having recently lost her job, Max is determined to help his family get back up on its feet. The publicity and pressure that comes with being a superhero would be too much to handle right now. But it's hard to fly under the radar, when you can literally fly. Meanwhile, Vinicus Cauldwell enjoys the power he has as Murkbourne's most feared super-villain. For once, he can sit back and relax without being pestered by the police. That is, until Max arrives. Vinicus isn't happy about having to fight a child, but he can't let Max find out. After all, super-villains can't be "good people"... Can they? We can't all be born heroes. Long ago, humans with supernatural abilities began to appear in our world. These gifted humans possessed strange powers such as super strength, the ability to fly, or control over elements. However, these gifted humans were few in number. Soon, the normal humans grew jealous of their power. They shamelessly threw these "freaks" out of their homes. Every city has its claim to fame and for the city of Cytropolis it's their superheroes. But unlike the cities of Gotham and Central City, this isn't a good thing. Cytropolis is known far and wide as the city with the clumsiest and least influential superheroes ever. But it never mattered that much since the super villains were just as bad. That is, until recently when the villains decided to smarten up and open a super villain academy to train the newest generation (something that never occurred to the heroes). Luckily for them, Matt Miller has arrived. He may seem like an average, normal (even bordering on boring) seventeen-year-old boy, but when are things ever what they seem? He may be apathetic and bitter but he has super powers and he's kind of, well, powerful. He's the heroes only hope against the newest villain in town, Sinister Shadow, and he has no choice but to lend a hand (but he refuses to wear tights while he does it, he draws the line at tights). Anyway, this is about two people. I can almost hear you rolling your eyes. Another cliché teen fiction with a bad boy and a good girl? Nope. This is about superheroes. I can still hear you rolling your eyes. Superheroes. Like in comic books? Like people with super speed and mutant powers? Yes. But this isn't about the fight they have. More about the lives they lead without the masks. But just keep in mind, people who live in the world have all different skin colours. Do not assume my characters are of one unless I state them explicitly. and diversity is welcome here in my novel! Anyhow, back to the story. Ever wonder where supervillains go after their fight with the hero? What about the other side of the story? It's not like they sit in their lair cackling all day and planning how to kidnap reporters. What about the lives they lead? And instead of just focusing on that, what if the superhero and the supervillain knew each other? I mean, can they see behind the mask? No, so their identities are secret. So what if the hero and villain were best friends? What if they were roommates? What if they were falling for each other? And what happens when they find out? Now, I assume you know all of these questions will be answered in this book. But hold on. It's going to take a while. You're in for a bumpy ride. And if any of you got any of the references in this description, give yourself a pat on the back. That is a beautiful thing.
